Protest is a term that captures an enormous variation in demonstrations against gentrification. The gentrification project defined protest to include petitions, artistic creations, city hearings, street marches, shaming, and colonial defacement (see above). Although many maps and studies document gentrification’s displacement impact, few examine community response to removal. Although activists have clearly applied pressure on city officials, the gentrification project is one of few sources attempting to connect methods and create a digital community network of gentrification activists. Through the community input form, Facebook feed, and digital map, the site provides three methods by which to track solutions to housing dispossession.
